Acer has finally made the Travelmate P645 official. It is a 14-inch ultrabook that is powered by Intel Haswell processor and comes with up to 12GB RAM and features an extremely long battery life runtime of 12 hours. The top-of-range model comes with a dedicated graphics card and a built in 3G modem to keep you connected on the move.
The display measures 14 inches and packs HD resolution (1366 x 768 pixels) or full HD (1920 x 1080). No matter which screen resolution you go for, you get anti-glare touch, allowing the user to work even outdoors or in bright areas. TravelMate P645’s chassis is made entirely of carbon fiber, and is very strong even though it measures just 20 millimeters. It is very light too, weighting only 1.55 kg. Acer has equipped it with new ultrabook Intel Haswell (up to Core i7) processors, 12GB of RAM (maximum), several options for storage (up to 500GB HDD + 256GB SSD) and a dedicated graphics card – AMD Radeon HD 8750M with 2GB of memory.
This ultrabook notebook can yield around 12 hours of battery life with normal use, but Acer boasts 18 hours of battery life if you use it for doing less CPU consuming tasks like Internet, read / write documents. Thus, you can use it even for small trips. As for connectivity, the TravelMate P645 comes (optionally) with a built-in 3G modem for keep you connected at all times. Heck, it even has NFC for sharing information between compatible NFC devices such as phones, tablets and other NFC laptops. It comes with 802.11ac Wi-Fi which is more efficient than the current standard, 802.11n because it operates on a different band from the one occupied by traditional devices.
Acer also has completely redesigned the the chiclet keyboard which is now more recessed and flush with the surface. It also has backlight to let user type in the dark (if you are not a touch typist). If you are a heavy user of ports, then consider getting its docking station that adds an auxiliary battery and different ports of various types, thereby increasing usability and expandability of the TravelMate P645. The Acer P645 docking station features three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI digital video output, an analog VGA, a plug for connecting to wired networks (LAN) and two jacks for headphones and microphone.
To strengthen the security on the new TravelMate P645 ultrabook, Acer has integrated a TPM chip and a fingerprint reader, which is placed between the two touchpad buttons. At the moment we do not know the availability of it, but we do know that it will cost between 1,299 and 1,499 Euros, depending on the configuration you choose. Acer TravelMate P645 is not a laptop for everyone, but it offers speed and performance for the most demanding professional users.
