The Intel Core i7-2657M is a dual core processor for ultrabooks. It runs at 1.6GHz and automatically overclocks to 2.7GHz under turbo boost mode. Since the Core i7-2657M is based on sandy bridge architecture, you get the usual Intel Graphics HD 3000 to handle graphics. Thanks to hyperthreading, the CPU handles upto four threads at a time with its 2 cores.
You get 4MB of L3 cache and TDP of this i7 CPU is same as i3 and i5 ones – 17 watts. The processor supports these features – Turbo Boost 2.0, Hyper-Threading, Virtualization VT-x, Virtualization for Directed I/O (VT-d), Trusted Execution, AES, Intel 64, Anti-Theft, My WiFi, Idle States, Enhanced SpeedStep, Thermal Monitoring and Execute Disable Bit. Here are its benchmark results:
1) PCMark Vantage – 10436
2) 3DMark 06 – 2546
3) Cinebench R10: Rendering Multiple CPUs 64Bit – 4376
4) 3DMark Vantage – 7732
The ultrabook processor was earlier offered in now defunct Alienware M11x R3, a powerful ultra portable gaming laptop.
